Within three years of obtaining a PhD, Anelisa Jaca, a Postdocoral Research Fellow at Cochrane South Africa, has published 17 peer-reviewed papers, most of them in high impact factor journals. Beyond her passion for medical research, she is interested in making sure that medical research findings reach different communities that need the information, including people who do not understand science.
She has established a social-media platform, Medical-In-Sight (MIS), aimed at interpreting and communicating evidence-based research to lay audiences - sharing medical research knowledge to raise awareness, change perceptions, and shape the opinions of the public. This project will create opportunities for specialists in medical and media fields to work together in creating content around trending and burning medical topics and use creative media ideas to share the knowledge to the public. This will bring a huge impact and transformation to different communities, not only in South Africa but also globally.
