Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer awareness month occurs in October each year. During this time there are initiatives around the world to raise awareness about the disease.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. In 2018 there were an estimated 2.1 million new cases of breast cancer and 627,000 deaths from breast cancer worldwide (Globocan 2018)
The incidence of breast cancer among South African women is increasing and it is one of the most common cancers among women in South Africa (www.gov.za).

The Cochrane Breast Cancer Review Group provides accurate and up-to-date information about screening, prevention and treatment, and supportive and follow-up care for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
